 Job Description

In Houston, TX: The Texas Association of Community Health Centers is seeking a full-time Dentist who will be responsible for providing dental care consistent with accepted professional standards, including diagnosis, preventative, operative, and surgical procedures.

Job Overview:

  • Provide dental care in a community health care setting to children 6 months and older
  • Examines patients requesting care, diagnose their dental/oral condition, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines
  • Dentist will perform fillings on primary and permanent teeth on all the surfaces needed
  • Dentist should be comfortable performing stainless steel crowns, primary teeth extractions, routine permanent teeth extractions, first dental home visits, anterior root canals, space maintainers and use of nitrous oxide
  • Dentist will be responsible for providing routine preventative care including, but not limited to, prophylaxis, sealants, and fluoride treatments
  • Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided
  • Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention
  • Prepares and submits weekly written reports on dental department issues, patients seen each week, weekly production, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the dental director

 Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Graduation from an accredited dental school
  • Two years clinical experience preferred
  • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas
  • Obtain 12 CE credits per year required; 18 CE credits preferred
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required
  • FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable
  • Current CPR (BLS) certifications
  • Texas DEA registration
  • Nitrous Oxide Certification, required
  • First Dental Home certification
  • Must have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited Dental Program
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred
  • Ability to pass credentialing process and qualify for FTCA malpractice insurance
  • Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques

Bilingual in Spanish & English preferred

Serving Houston’s East End community since 1994, we are an accomplished Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with four health center locations and offers a comprehensive range of pediatric and adult health care services for the medically underserved and uninsured, which includes primary care, women’s health, dental care, and behavioral health services.  We also provide ancillary services, such as case management and eligibility assistance, to help patients and their families overcome obstacles to accessing health care services. Additionally, we are recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient Centered Medical Home – Level 1.
