 Job Description

The Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute (MMCCI) is seeking a Surgeon to serve as the Medical Director of their Breast Care Center.

The Medical Director will serve as the leader and “anchor physician” of the Breast Care Center within the Oncology service line at Maine Medical Center.  The Medical Director will be responsible for the quality and safety of the medical care provided to breast patients, achievement of relevant Breast Care Center goals, patient, provider and employee satisfaction, clinical program development, participation in physician recruitment and retention, coordination of care across specialties, development and optimization of the clinical care model, cost containment, and accreditation and regulatory compliance.

The Breast Care Center is a state-of-the art, comprehensive, multidisciplinary statewide resource, providing sub-specialty breast health care, including early detection, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship support, and has earned full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

The Medical Director will be a member of the Department of Surgery and a faculty member of the Tufts University School of Medicine.  She/he will have the opportunity to supervise and work directly with General Surgery Residents at Maine Medical Center, and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program.

The preferred candidate is a Fellowship-trained Surgical Oncologist or Fellowship-trained Breast Surgeon with at least five years of experience in a health care setting, preferably with a focus on breast surgery. Prior leadership position in a multidisciplinary breast cancer setting preferred, with demonstrated supervisory, management and collaboration skills with physicians, nurses and administrators.
