Carilion Clinic is searching for a Pediatric Hospitalist to join the existing team of two physicians at Carilion Children's Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia which is part of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 763-bed teaching/tertiary care center with Level 1 Trauma. With the region's only intensive care unit for pediatric patients, the 8 bed PICU annually provides specialized medical and nursing care to more than 450 critically ill or injured infants and children. The 24 bed pediatric unit provides care for 1,500 patients annually and is the only dedicated unit for children and adolescents in the region. The team provides 16 hours per day in-house coverage. There are upper level pediatric or family practice residents in-house 24/7 for the inpatient unit as well as ER consultations.

Responsibilities also include teaching and the supervision of medical students and residents. No newborn nursery or delivery room coverage required.  Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital began it's Pediatric Residency Program in 2012 and has now graduated it's first class of physicians. We also welcomed third year medical students from the new Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.  These new programs offer an opportunity to mentor pediatric learners from many different levels.

Serving as a tertiary referral center for 1.5 million in southwest Virginia, the facility provides a full range of pediatric services, excluding open-heart surgery and ECMO. Hospital-based pediatric physicians include: Allergy, Anesthesia, Cardiology, Clinical Genetics, Developmental Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Pediatrics, Hematology & Oncology, Intensivists, Neonatology, Opthamology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pulmonary, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Surgery.

The Roanoke Valley features a cohesive pediatric community with more than 20 pediatricians in private practice. In addition, pediatric specialists in private practice include: orthopedics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, nephrology and anesthesiology.
