Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), an 825-bed tertiary care referral center in Southwest Virginia, is seeking a BC/BE Acute Care Surgeon to join a growing team of six surgeons.
CRMH is the flagship facility for Carilion Clinic and a Level I Trauma Center admitting approximately 2,000 patients a year from a catchment area of about 1.5 million. It also houses the only dedicated Surgical Critical Care Service in the region. Trauma volume has consistently increased at over 10% a year for a decade, and that growth is predicted to continue. All members of the group also practice Emergency General Surgery and divide their time between Trauma, ICU, and Emergency Surgery services. There is also an opportunity to develop an elective general surgery practice, if desired. The compensation is highly competitive and uses MGMA benchmarking. Clinical support is provided by a growing cadre of Physician Assistants in addition to surgical residents. Our group emphasizes a team approach to comprehensive care, and participates extensively in research and education.
The hospital supports a Surgery Residency (in addition to 14 other GME programs) and is seeking to begin a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. Additionally, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, one of the very few new medical schools in the country, is welcoming its first class in 2010 and will offer even further education and faculty positions. There are also expanding opportunities to conduct research in collaboration with the Carilion Biomedical Institute and Virginia Tech.
The Roanoke metro area has consistently been rated amongst the "best places to live" and features exceptional schools, low cost of living, inexpensive real estate, and abundant outdoor activities along the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounding areas. We are also only a few hours driving distance from the beaches and major metropolitan areas.
New graduates are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity to join an expanding Acute Care Surgery practice within a dynamic, ground-breaking health care system. AA/EOE
