Harlingen is known for great weather and old-fashioned hospitality. It's the perfect hub for day trips exploring the entire Rio Grande Valley, including northern Mexico and southernmost Texas.

City Attractions: Jackson Street Historic District offers unique shops, outdoor movie nights and a variety of community events. South Padre Island Beaches are just 40 minutes away! Valley Race Park offers greyhound dog racing. Visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan del Valley. Come and play in La Placita Diaz/Guiterrez Park or visit Harlingen Municipal Auditorium for concerts and theatrical performances. Many museums and historical sites are also located in Harlingen. The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival is the largest nature festival in the region. The noteworthy Extravaganza Folklorica includes ethnic costumes, music and dancing.

Nature Attractions: This area is well known for tropical bird watching due to being situated at the convergence of two primary flyways. Several of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail locations are in Harlingen including the Harlingen Thicket Bird Sanctuary. The Laguna Atascosa NWR is located next to the beautiful Laguna Madre and the Santa Ana NWR is a notable location which provides tram tours during the winter. The nearby Los Ebanos Preserve includes nature trails, gardens, a variety of birds and a vast amount of butterflies. The World Birding Center offers a large trail area.

Transportation: The city is served by the Valley International Airport. The busy Free Trade Bridge is located near Harlingen and includes a prominent U.S. Customs inspection center.

Higher Education: A campus of the Texas State Technical College is situated in Harlingen. South Texas College, University of Texas Pan American and University of Texas at Brownsville are nearby.

 

This clinic was founded in 1971 and provides health services to people in Cameron and Willacy counties. This service area has been designated as a Medically Underserved Area and as a Health Professional Shortage Area. The clinic maintains four program/service delivery sites and provides services such as pharmacy, laboratory, dental, WIC, radiology, social services, family planning, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, health education, and nutrition counseling. The center is proud to be a Joint Commission accredited community health center.
