As ThedaCare moves toward completing the last phase of transitioning to an electronic platform on EPIC, we are seeking a BE/BC Internal Medicine Hospitalist, with experience in improving and implementing Computerized Order Entry (CPOE) and provider documentation among hospital specialists and primary care physician communities.

This position will join a 14-physician hospitalist group and partner with a highly dedicated medical staff while serving on the Leadership Steering Group. The physician will split their time accordingly, based on the needs of the implementation.

Primary care physicians at Appleton Medical Center initiated the hospitalist program in 1998, providing a solid base of support by referring physicians. Since its inception, overall inpatient mortality rates have dropped 16 percent. Overall lengths of stay for the five most common ailments, including pneumonia, stroke, chest pain, and congestive heart failure, have dropped by 7.5 percent. The improved outcomes and shorter stays have resulted in a 9.6 percent drop in the average charge per patient.

Hospitalists have played an integral part in quality improvement, including Collaborative Care. Hospital staff is studying all clinical and administrative processes to determine the content of each process, both in resources and steps. These improvement events are a week in length and involve employees from all levels of the organization. The hospitalist service has committed the involvement of their physicians, providing mini-sabbatical time to participate.
