 Job Description

The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Maine Medical Center is seeking an experienced Clinician Educator to serve as Fellowship Program Director.

The Maine Medical Center Sports Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME accredited primary care sports medicine fellowship, open to graduates of accredited programs in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and PM&R.  The mission of the MMC Sports Medicine Fellowship is to provide the highest quality educational environment possible for the post graduate training of primary care physicians in the principles and practice of sports medicine.

Maine Medical Center (MMC) has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary hospital and a Level One Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and an integral part of the Tufts University Medical School.  Maine Medical Center supports over 240 residents and fellows in 12 residency programs and 9 fellowship programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).   Sports Medicine Fellows are heavily involved in the education of MMC primary care residents as well as Tufts University medical students. In addition, the fellows have ample opportunity to provide educational outreach in sports medicine to community audiences.

Candidates must have demonstrated ability as a clinician, medical educator, and administrator and have an understanding of and commitment to sports medicine education.  The Program Director will ensure that residents are properly supervised in carrying out their patient care responsibilities and develop and maintain an effective curriculum that complies with all elements of the Next Accreditation System including ACGME core competencies, milestones and Clinical Learning Environment Reviews.  The Director will guide strategic planning for the ongoing growth and development of the fellowship program, in cooperation with the Departments of Family Medicine and Maine Medical Center, and act as a liaison between the fellowship program and the outpatient teaching sites.

The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program Director will be the faculty member responsible for the operation of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program with assistance from the Chair of Family Medicine and the Program Director of Family Medicine.  Candidates must be certified in sports medicine.
