 Client Overview
Presidio County is a large rural county in the mountains of Far West Texas that is designated as a health professional's shortage area as well as being medically and dentally underserved. There are two towns: Marfa (pop. 2200), located at the northern end of the county, and Presidio (pop. 5100), located 65 miles south on the Mexican border across the Rio Grande from Ojinaga, Chihuahua. Although Marfa (the county seat) has increasingly been recognized as a modern art center and attracts art enthusiasts, the entire county is one of the poorest in the United States. Presidio and Marfa are, respectively, 95% and 70% Hispanic.
