The Rio Grande Valley is an area located in the southernmost tip of South Texas. It lies along the northern bank of the Rio Grande, which separates Mexico from the United States. It is a delta containing many oxbow lakes or resacas formed from pinched-off meanders in earlier courses of the Rio Grande. The Valley encompasses several landmarks that attract tourists, and is primarily known for South Padre Island. Popular destinations include Port Isabel Lighthouse, Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, and Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. Description |
In San Juan, TX: Texas Association of Community Health Centers is seeking a full-time Obstetrics/Gynecology Physician. New grads welcome to apply!
Job Overview:
- Provide high quality, comprehensive primary & preventative medical care services
- Deliveries as well as pre-and post-natal care
- Warm and friendly community health center setting
- Some after-hours on-call duty is expected
- Call schedule will be ¿ 1:3
- Practice in clinical setting and will have inpatient hospital responsibility
- Center uses MicroMD EHR system
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited medical school
- Completion of approved post-graduate training
- Current or pending unrestricted Texas Medical license required
- Must have current DEA and DPS registrations
- Must be Board certified in OB/GYN Medicine
- Current life support certification
- Must meet training privileges to do deliveries at hospitals
- CPR, BLS, or ACLS Certificates required
* Bilingual preferred but not required

Our facility is a federally qualified health center serving the low income and uninsured families of Hidalgo and Starr Counties in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. Our mission is to serve the community in a positive, compassionate manner by providing the highest degree of primary and preventive health care services within every department of the center while excelling at customer service. The primary populations served are the uninsured, medically indigent residents and migrant and seasonal families and their families. We offer a complete set of primary health care services at 10 clinic locations - 8 in Hidalgo County and 2 in Starr County. Health services include family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric care, OBGYN, dental care, behavioral health services, nutritional/health education, case management, social services, outreach services and eligibility assistance. Our center is accredited by the Joint Commission.

San Juan is part of the McAllen metropolitan area, which encompasses the cities of McAllen, San Juan, Pharr, and Edinburg. McAllen is the twentieth most populous city in Texas as well as largest city in Hidalgo County. Today the area is one of the fastest growing in the United States.
Recreation: Just an hour and fifteen minutes' drive east is beautiful Port Isabel, Texas, which has miles of beautiful beach for you to enjoy. Nearby Mission, TX is home to North American Butterfly Association (NABA) International Butterfly Park. Also close by is the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, a lush preserve along the banks of the Rio Grande with over six hundred acres set aside to preserve native flora and fauna.
The average high in the McAllen/San Juan/Edinburg area in January is 70 °F and the average low is 50 °F. The average high is 96 °F and the average low is 76 °F in August. The warm season is extremely long and winters here are very mild.
McAllen-Miller International Airport is the Rio Grande Valley's busiest airport and is served by American Airlines with non-stop service to Dallas/Ft. Worth, United with non-stop service to Houston and Allegiant Airlines with non-stop flights to Las Vegas and Orlando-Sanford. |
