Description |

One of Maine's most unique healthcare delivery sites needs an equally unique physician, Family Practice or Internal Medicine. This was the very first National Health Service Corps service site. Current building was constructed as a hospital in 1967 with recent renovations. On-site services include an outpatient physician's office, diagnostic lab services, a 24/7 emergency department and an 18 bed nursing home. Practice averages 3,000 office visits and 600 emergency visits per year. Strong ER experience is essential. Staffing is two full time providers with a variety of other clinicians per diem. Ambulances are dispatched from the health center. Practice serves a vast region, including the towns of Jackman, Moose River, Dennistown Plantation, Parlin Pond and numerous outlying locations. HPSA Score is 13. This site would be appropriate for J-1 Candidates with ER background.
Highlights: This close-knit community of about 1,000 "The Switzerland of Maine" is an outdoor nature lovers haven. The nearest city is Skowhegan, 75 miles south, but Canada is only 16 miles away, with Quebec City only 2 hours away. Featured events include golf, whitewater rafting, cross country skiing, dog sled racing, ski jorging, and Sans Frontier Days.
This very rural region features traditional forest related activities and a world renowned four season recreational/tourist industry. Resources include many rivers, lakes and streams and over 300 miles of ATV/snowmobile trails.
