 Job Description

Spring Harbor Hospital, a division of Maine Behavioral Healthcare, is seeking a BC/BE Adult Psychiatrist.

Spring Harbor Hospital (SHH) is southern Maine's only nonprofit, private psychiatric hospital offering psychiatric treatment to children, adolescents, and adults.  SHH devotes forty-eight beds on its second floor to the treatment of adults who experience acute psychiatric illness and co-occurring disorders. The program delivers the most sophisticated strategies currently available to return patients to normal functioning more quickly than in any other setting. Treatment emphasizes return-to-work strategies and cognitive therapies to help patients make the smoothest possible transition from the hospital in the shortest possible time.

There is a robust collegial atmosphere which includes weekly case conference, grand rounds, and 5 adult psychiatrists, 5 child psychiatrists, a fulltime psychologist, as well as allied health providers including 3 fulltime PAs and 1 fulltime NP.

The care-giving team includes a psychiatrist, Physician Assistant, as well as psychiatric nurses, social workers, and technicians who specialize in the treatment of major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring disorders . Discharge planners assist in securing timely and appropriate aftercare services. Average length of stay for adult patients is approximately ten days.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare is Northern New England’s leading integrated behavioral healthcare system. It serves predominantly southern, western and central Maine, and is composed of southern Maine’s only nonprofit psychiatric hospital, outpatient treatment, crisis, Crisis Stabilization units, as well as 6 ACT teams.  This fully integrated and growing system of behavioral healthcare makes it a regional and national model for treating people with serious mental health issues.

Candidates will have an Assistant Professor Faculty appointment at Tufts School of Medicine, and the opportunity to teach Residents and Fellows at Maine Medical Center, the state’s leading tertiary care hospital with a full complement of residencies and fellowships, and an integral part of the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program.
