 Job Description

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at Loma Linda Medical Center (LLUMC) is seeking a full-time academic child neurologist with a strong interest in neurodevelopmental disabilities at the assistant or associate professor level who is BE/BC in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology.

The Division of Child Neurology consists of 14 pediatric neurologists (4 are pediatric epileptologists), and 7 neuropsychologists. As part of the residency program, there is a one-month rotation in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. This person taking this position will serve to oversee the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Residency rotation. Clinical research is encouraged. The Department of Pediatrics has ~180 attending physicians and ~100 pediatric residents. A new LLU Children's Hospital will open in 2020 and the current Children’s Hospital has ~300 beds including a 16 bed ED, 25 bed PICU, 24 bed Intermediate Care Unit, 90 bed NICU (that includes our Neuro-NICU), and 140 additional beds in 5 pediatric units.

The Child Neurology division has four clinical services: (1) the inpatient ward service where we care for about 15 patients; (2) the inpatient consult service that follows about 10 to 15 patients; (3) our Pediatric Epilepsy service that is staffed by our epileptologists; and (4) our outpatient EEG services for reading all other EEGs. Our pediatric epilepsy service includes a Comprehensive Epilepsy Team Center supported by the California Children’s Services, a large VNS program, and a Ketogenic Diet program. We have a well-staffed EEG lab (30) and do over 3000 pediatric EEGs and approximately 800 video-EEG telemetry studies per year. We have 3 excellent pediatric neurosurgeons, 6 world-class neuroradiologists, 3 MRI (including two 3T) scanners, several CT scanners, a baby PET and complete SPECT capabilities. There is also an advanced Neuroimaging laboratory.

We have a full array of child neurology subspecialty clinics that provide care for children with the following conditions: Tuberous Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Pediatric Autoimmune Encephalitis; Cerebral Palsy and Movement Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, Pediatric Stoke; Neurofibromatosis; Pediatric Headache and Chronic Pain and a Sleep Disorders Clinic. Attendings on average do 6-7 outpatient clinics per week. There is a separate CCS team center clinic run by one of our pediatricians that is a Spina Bifida Team Clinic. There is also a multi-disciplinary craniofacial clinic. We also have excellent pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine inpatient and outpatient services and a newly opened Rehabilitation Medicine Institute. We also have four excellent geneticists and a group of genetics counselors with whom we interact on a near continuous basis. We have 7 pediatric neuropsychologists whose clinics are located in one of our general Pediatric Clinics and they supervise the “The Pediatric NeuroAssesment Program” that in conjunction with psychology students evaluate children with various neurodevelopmental disorders. We have recently established the Autism Assessment Center which provides specialized transdisciplinary comprehensive assessment for children when there are questions regarding the potential of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The AAC brings together a transdisciplinary team including 3 pediatric specialties: Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, Pediatric Neurology and Genetics with Neuropsychology, Occupational therapy, Speech/Language therapy and other relevant professionals under one roof to deliver the best outcomes and quality of life for patients.
