A transformation to an academic clinic model included the opening of VTCSOM (Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine) and VTCRI (Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute) in 2014, with continual growth to both. In addition, senior otolaryngology residents from the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth rotate in our center along with Carilion Clinic residents in other specialties and medical students from VTCSOM and adjacent centers with the goal to establish our own Otolaryngology Residency.
