 Job Description

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at Loma Linda Medical Center (LLUMC) is seeking two additional faculty members, including a full-time academic child neurologist at the assistant or associate professor level who is BE/BC in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology as well as a BE/BC developmental and behavioral pediatrician.

The Division consists of 9 child neurologists (2 are pediatric epileptologists), 1 developmental pediatric specialist, and 4 neuropsychologists. We are part of the Department of Pediatrics which has ~180 attending physicians and ~100 resident physicians. Our Child Neurology Residency accepts 1 resident/year. There is a strong Neurology department with 3 residents per year who rotate through child neurology.

A new LLU Children's Hospital will open in 2020 and the current Children’s Hospital has ~300 beds including a 16 bed ED, 25 bed PICU, 24 bed Intermediate Care Unit, 90 bed NICU (that includes our Neuro-NICU), and 140 additional beds in 5 pediatric units. There are approximately 16,000 pediatric medical and surgical hospital admissions per year the LLU Children’s Hospital and approximately 4000 patients are directly admitted or are transferred to the Child Neurology ward service.  Approximately 1,000 consultations are performed annually. We have an active epilepsy surgery service and pediatric EMU. The outpatient child neurology clinic sees approximately 15,000 children annually and consists of clincs in general child neurology as well as multiple subspecialties (Neuromuscular Diseases, Epilepsy, TBI, Demyelinating Diseases, Autoimmune Diseases, Movement Disorders, Tuberous Sclerosis, Neurofibromatosis, etc.)

We are seeking a child neurologist with excellent clinical skills. Interest in developing a subspecialty clinic and skills in autism, pediatric sleep medicine, and other related areas is desired. Shared responsibilities include medical student and resident teaching, attending on the child neurology inpatient service and having an active outpatient clinical practice. Interest in academic research is encouraged and supported. Requirements include an MD or equivalent degree, eligibility for medical licensure in the State of California, and certification (or eligibility for certification) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology.

We are also seeking a developmental and behavioral pediatrician who will coordinate the LLU Department of Pediatrics’ Developmental Behavioral Residency Rotation and be the Medical Director/Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician in an innovative Autism Assessment Center which has brought together a transdisciplinary team (neuropsychology, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy child neurology, developmental pediatrics, genetics) to assess children suspected of having ASD.
