Description |
Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Hyperbaric and Sleep Medicine (PCCHSM) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our inpatient consultation team.
The APP will gain independence in managing a portion of our inpatient procedure and consultation service. This is an evolving niche within the Division and we are eager to add an enthusiastic and dedicated member to our team to help in its development.
Duties will primarily include the following:

1- Performing inpatient consultations, including patient histories and physical
examination, and accompanying documentation. The APP will primarily focus on developing our pleural disease service, and eventually manage these patients autonomously, in collaboration with the physician team.

2- Performing procedures and accompanying documentation. The APP will be expected to become proficient in and perform the following procedures and associated care:

Lung and pleural ultrasound
-
Ultrasound-guided thoracentesis
-
Ultrasound-guided chest tube placement
-
Ultrasound-guided indwelling pleural catheter placement
-
Tracheostomy tube exchange and care
-
Occasional arterial and central venous line placement in the intensive care unit
-
3- Outpatient follow-up and management of patients with pleural disease in our Thoracic Oncology Clinic, alongside our interventional pulmonologists.

4- Education of inpatient nursing teams on the care of patients with chest tubes and other pleural catheters.

5- Participation in quality improvement and research projects.

6- Assisting with other clinical duties as needed within the PCCHSM division, commensurate with the job description.

7- Work hours are Monday through Friday. There is no weekend or overnight call.

Requirements |
Training and education:
The APP will train and gain experience while rotating daily with the inpatient interventional pulmonology and medical ICU teams until a designated proficiency level is reached. Thereafter, progressive independence will be expected, commensurate with the above job description. Supplementary continuing education will be provided, including attendance of relevant seminars, courses, and conferences.
Requirements and Qualifications:

1- Must be a graduate of a national accredited Advanced Practice Provider program.

2- Must be a certified Advanced Practice Provider and licensed by the corresponding
California Board.

3- Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certification.

4- Must obtain Institutional Review Board certification within 6 months of hiring.

5- Previous experience performing ultrasound-guided procedures is preferred, but not
required.

6- Previous work in ICU or inpatient setting is preferred, but not required.

The 36-bed MICU is divided in two multidisciplinary teams, including Pulmonary/Critical Care fellows and residents from Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. The 51-bed ED includes approximately 70,000 annual adult and pediatric patient visits with 2,500 ICU admissions.
