Carilion Children’s Hospital is recruiting a pediatric Intensivist to join its team of two full time and one part time pediatric intensivists. This position will replace a current third intensivist. The Children’s Hospital is a hospital within a hospital model centrally located in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH). CRMH is a Level One, 763 bed, trauma and academic/tertiary care center serving Southwest Virginia with the only pediatric intensive care and dedicated pediatric unit along with Level 1 pediatric trauma center for the region. The PICU is an 8 bed unit with approximately 500 admissions per year. The attending team provides coverage for the PICU, dedicated NeoPeds Transport team, sedation services and inpatient quality. The team is in the process of starting a recurrent Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care (PFCCM) course at Carilion in the next few months.
Carilion Children’s Hospital includes an 8-bed PICU, 22-bed inpatient pediatric ward, 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursery and dedicated pediatric emergency room area. Serving as the tertiary referral center for 185,000 children in Southwest Virginia, the facility provides a full range of critical care services with the exception of open heart, ECMO and transplant services. The system is well served with fellowship trained sub-specialists including pediatric anesthesiology, cardiology, endocrinology, developmental pediatrics, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology/oncology, neonatology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pulmonology, psychiatry and psychology, radiology, and surgery.
Qualifications include completion of an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship. Applicants must be ABMS/AOA-BE/BC in pediatric critical care medicine and possess an unencumbered medical license. Sedation skills and experience would be of great benefit to the team. Experience instructing the PFCCM course is a plus. Must possess interest and enthusiasm for clinical service and teaching residents and medical students. Research activity is encouraged and supported at Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic's Fralin Research Institute.

The PICU team includes second and third year pediatric residents as well as third year emergency medicine residents. The attendings are also involved with didactic resident education. This position carries a faculty appointment with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
