 Job Description

In Houston, TX: Texas Association of Community Health Centers is seeking a full-time Family Medicine Physician to examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Overview:

  • Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients
  • Perform a complete physical exam
  • Collaborate with providers in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures
  • Promote health by advising patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease
  • Synthesize data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention
  • Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases
  • Instruct patients and family regarding medications, treatment instructions, and provide patient education
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, other pertinent information, post tests and examination results
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation
  • Manage medical and surgical emergencies
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between visits
  • Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary
  • Working knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding and managed care, and be available for training as necessary
  • Attend required meetings and participates in committees/pilot projects as requested
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
  • Follow guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings
  • Perform minor surgical procedures
  • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested
  • Prescribe medication in accordance with Texas statue and professional practice guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Clinic Vision, Mission, and Values

  • Current unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a physician in the State of Texas

Education: Seventeen school districts exist within the city of Houston. Organization was established in 1994 as a forum and a convener for rallying community resources to reduce the widening health disparity gap faced by a rapidly growing Asian populations residing in the greater Houston area.  became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2001 and created a clinic as a volunteer-run, non-profit community health center providing culturally and linguistically competent care for Houston’s underserved and isolated Asian communities. In 2012, the Clinic became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and currently operates three clinics serving residents of all ethnic backgrounds.

Our programs and initiatives promote healthy living and increased access to a continuum of care for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. We are governed by a voluntary board of directors and supported by a large network of member organizations, partners and volunteers.

Practice Description :

Center provides health care services to all regardless of the patients' ability to pay. In particular we serve the uninsured, underinsured, those with limited English proficiency, and the low-income. A unique characteristic we have is the capacity to provide services in 14 different languages, including: Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Burmese, Arabic, and Spanish.
