 Job Description

Experience the Maine attraction.  A well-established General Surgery practice seeks a full-time BC/BE surgeon for an excellent opportunity in scenic Norway, Maine, approximately one hour from Portland in the Oxford Hills region.

Norway is an affordable community in the heart of a four-season recreational area, surrounded by more than ten lakes and ponds, making it a haven for boating, swimming, fishing, and ice skating.  The nearby mountains provide hiking with vista views of Mount Washington and the Presidential Range, and family ski resorts are less than an hour away.

Stephens Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital, has been recognized by the Leapfrog Group as one of the top 100 rural hospitals in the nation 3 times in the last 6 years – In 2009, in 2013, and again in 2014 - as delivering the best quality care while attaining the highest levels of efficiency.

Come be part of our dynamic and growing team of 3 surgeons. The hospital has increased its ambulatory surgery space to include a Surgical Suite and an Endoscopy and Minor Procedures Suite which provides added space and technology for endoscopic studies and minor surgical procedures, including two procedure rooms and four patient areas for preparation and recovery, offering privacy and convenience to patients.

This position offers an opportunity to teach and mentor medical students as Stephens Memorial Hospital, a member of MaineHealth, the premier healthcare system in Maine, including Maine Medical Center, is a teaching site for the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine rural medicine clerkship program.

Experience the warmth of a small town combined with a medical community working closely with their colleagues throughout the MaineHealth system to ensure the healthcare needs of patients are delivered with the highest level of quality.  A new medical office building which will house the Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Practices is currently in the construction phase, with completion and expected move-in by January of 2016.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits, to include student loan repayment and electronic medical records.
