 Job Description

Carilion Clinic in scenic Roanoke, VA is searching for a Palliative Care physician to join its growing palliative medicine program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 703-bed teaching/tertiary referral center with Virginia State-designated Level 1 Trauma Center serving 1.5 million throughout southwest Virginia. An "All-American City," Roanoke is a metro area of more than 300,000 located at the southern tip of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, 3-1/2 hours south of DC via Interstate 81. The area offers an abundance of outdoor activities in a mild four-season climate, affordable living, and excellent educational, professional and cultural opportunities.

The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, thrive in an interdisciplinary team environment, and be a strong ambassador for palliative medicine.  The candidate must be collaborative and enjoy working in a team-based environment, providing direct patient care, teaching students, residents, and fellows.

Responsibilities include the being a key member of an inpatient palliative care consult service, managing and supporting patient’s and families on the inpatient palliative care unit, and aid in the future development of an existing outpatient consultation service.  

Candidates must be ABMS/AOA-BC, fellowship trained in an approved AAHPM Palliative Medicine program, and certified through the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, or plan in place to receive certification within two years.

Hospital Overview

One of the largest hospitals in the state, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) is a 703-bed hospital with an additional 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
