Considering the existing patient base and community need, you could realize substantially more. Carilion Medical Group's compensation plan provides incremental pay for incremental work.

    Carilion Clinic has opportunities available for an Internist and/or Family Medicine physician to join its busy and thriving group practice of 7 IM's and 5 FP's in Martinsville, Virginia. Carilion Clinic (formerly Carilion Health System) is the largest not-for-profit integrated health system in southwestern Virginia, with eight hospitals, 82 physician practice locations, ten residency programs, and three fellowship programs. Carilion enjoys a 35-year association with the University of Virginia, currently providing primary clinical training for one quarter of UVA's third-year medical students. Carilion is also developing a new medical school in conjunction with Virginia Tech. The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine will welcome its inaugural class of 42 students in the fall of 2010. This sophisticated network of 82 multi-specialty physicians offers Carilion physicians faster access to patient information and history with a sophiscated, fully integrated electronic medical record system and excellent access to subspecialty consultation.

    Teaching opportunities within the practice are available to those who desire with the rotation of medical students, interns, and residents. Our Internal Medicine and Family Practice positions are traditional practice opportunities (without OB). Martinsville's primary service area is 40,000 residents with a secondary area population of 60,000. Responsibilities include inpatient work, ICU, and some Nursing Home. IM call is 1:8, while FP call is 1:10, and each physician enjoys one half-day off each week. The Nocturnist position is 7 PM to 7 AM, seven days on and seven days off. Memorial Hospital of Martinsville is a full service hospital with 237 beds and is located five minutes from the practice location.

Martinsville is also part of Virginia's racing region that includes Martinsville Speedway which hosts two Nascar Nextel races annually.     Carilion offers a competitive first year base salary with advancement to physician compensation plan with productivity-based bonus plan in 2nd year, which offers unlimited earning potential. Incentives and benefits include PAID malpractice and tail, sign-on bonus, CME allowance and days, health/life/disability, and Student Loan Repayment Program for newly graduated residents. Additional loan repayment program available from the State of Virginia.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • ABMS/AOA-BC/BE in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with plan in place to sit for Boards
  • Eligible for unrestricted Virginia medical license and DEA
  • Team player, highly motivated, excellent communication skills
  • Graduating residents encouraged to apply
