Tazewell County is located in the southwestern portion of Virginia near major north-south (I-77) and east-west (I-81) interstates that put the county line within 500 miles of half the U.S. population. The county boasts an airport for private aircraft and is less than 30 minutes from the nearest commercial airport. Personal rail transportation is available by means of Amtrak which operates from Hinton, WV approximately 50 minutes from Bluefield.



Natural beauty contributes greatly to our quality of life and is visible everywhere you look. Burkes Garden, also called "God's Thumb Print", is a spectacular geological structure containing about 20,000 acres of farmland. The Appalachian Trail passes along one side of it and hunting, fishing, and biking opportunities abound all across the county.
