San Marcos, Texas is an exciting, historic community in the heart of Central Texas midway between Austin and San Antonio. The city is home to Texas State University (alma mater of LBJ), the famous San Marcos outlet malls (largest in the Southwest) and boasts an historic and lively downtown. The city also has a vibrant night life and music scene that has launched the careers of legends like George Strait and Stevie Ray Vaughn.



The San Marcos River is a spring-fed waterway that flows through the heart of San Marcos--both literally and figuratively. People can kayak, snorkel, swim, and float on inner tubes in the 72-degree water. Or they can relax in the parks that straddle the river, watching the tubers float by.



Since it opened in 1903, Texas State University-San Marcos has grown into a comprehensive regional university with 110 bachelor's, 88 master's and eight doctoral degree programs. More than 28,000 students attend class on this beautiful campus, which is built atop a hill overlooking the San Marcos River. The university offers undergraduate courses and degrees in a wide variety of subjects through seven academic schools, and 88 master's degree programs offered through the Graduate School. The university maintains close ties with the community by offering skill assessments, hiring, testing, and other services.
