Community Profile Description

Clyde is an incorporated community on Interstate Highway 20 and Farm Road 604, five miles west of Baird and eight miles east of Abilene in northwestern Callahan County. It is part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Abilene is the twenty-fifth most populous city in the state of Texas and hosts Dyess Air Force Base on its western side.



Art & Music: Clyde is home to a wealth of artists and various avenues for individual expression. The Oak Street Gallery opened downtown in 2010 and Galleria Mia opened in early 2011. Downtown Clyde is also home to two professional recording studios and a hot live music scene. Clyde's Lake Fest, each July, is host to two days of live music out at Clyde Lake, featuring bands from all across Texas. Nationally syndicated radio host D. Grant Smith records his weekly NPR show, The Appetizer, right here in Clyde America.



Outdoor Recreation: Drive five miles south of Clyde on FM 604, turn left on FM 3217, and then about four miles more, and you will find yourself at Clyde Lake. Clyde Lake offers tent and RV camping, with full hook ups and a dumping station available. Other features include marked nature trails, picnic tables with barbecue grills and a remodeled restroom for your use. There is also a pavilion (available to rent for special functions), a sand volleyball court, playground, and horseshoe pits. Clyde Lake is an excellent fishing lake and is also big enough for recreational boating.



Clyde's convenient location places it only a short drive from the excitement of the Metroplex while being within just minutes of a variety of quiet, small-town escapes. Whether you have a day or a whole weekend to spend, we can point you in the right direction for fun!
